The U.S. energy system is grossly inefficient

Inefficient US electric generation

The typical plant throws out two of every three units of energy, largely in the form of waste heat. This (in)efficiency rate has not changed since the 1950s (when Dwight Eisenhower was president). Today, the average efficiency of a U.S. power plant is only about 33%.
