The Atlantic's May 2008 issue highlights RED and energy recycling. Offering "a steamy solution to global warming," the article by Lisa Margonelli explains how industrial plants can make use of their "junk energy" in order to generate their own power and buy less from the grid. The piece describes Tom Casten as "one of the few people who's been making money from recycled steam," and it argues that reforming utility regulation would accelerate the development of clean energy. RED Blog

Recycled Energy Development has launched a blog on its website in order to help stimulate discussions on energy policy and climate change legislation. Recent postings include Tom Casten's call for the clean energy community to join forces and Sean Casten's five-part blog on necessary components, such as output-based standards, of legislation to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. States consider CESOP

A Clean Energy Standard Offer Program (CESOP) would have states honestly calculate the costs of generating and delivering electricity from new centralized power plants. Then they would offer long-term contracts to anyone who could supply clean power at just 80 percent of that cost.
