CHICAGO — Recycled Energy Development (RED), a clean energy company that cuts manufacturers’ energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions simultaneously, today released a video discussing how businesseses can significantly increase profits by recycling waste energy they currently throw away.
The video is the second in a series created to educate policymakers, potential clients and the public on the issues and technology behind energy recycling. RED videos can be seen at www.recycled-energy.com.
“The Offer” details RED’s partnerships with manufacturers to capture waste energy (largely heat) from industrial processes. This waste heat, normally seen billowing from smokestacks, is instead recycled into clean electricity and steam which is then used by the manufacturing facility or sold back into the grid. Stopping the routine venting of waste energy makes businesses more competitive by dramatically lowering energy costs — putting American manufacturers on a more equal footing with overseas counterparts.
The generation of heat and power is responsible for about two-thirds of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Recycling waste energy could cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent and generate nearly 40 percent of our nation’s electricity, according to studies done for the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“It is completely possible for businesses to do well by doing good, particularly in industries that use a lot of heat,” RED Chairman Tom Casten said. “Recycling waste heat from manufacturing could do more to fight global warming than taking every passenger car in America off the road. At the same, it allows businesses to offer competitively priced products, grow their organizations and create permanent jobs.”
“The Offer” underscores RED’s history of helping manufacturers overcome the familiar dichotomy of “clean power” versus “cheap power.” Casten and his son, Sean Casten, RED president and CEO, have several decades’ experience developing more than 200 energy recycling projects worth more than $2 billion.
“We want to help manufacturers discover the amount of money they can save by simply harnessing their waste energy instead of discarding it. We can make more clean energy at one steel plant than is generated by all the grid-connected solar panels in the world-and at a fraction of the cost,” said Sean Casten.
RED has formed a strategic partnership with Denham Capital Management LP to invest $1.5 billion in energy recycling projects. The partnership, known as RED Holding Company, LLC, serves as an investment platform to fund RED’s energy recycling projects.
Recycled Energy Development (www.recycled-energy.com) develops, owns and operates power projects that harness waste energy to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut power costs for manufacturers. With more than 30 years experience in environmentally responsible energy development projects, RED’s team works closely with industrial companies to optimize energy efficiency and maximize profits.
